About
Eggy Tapes is a DIY tape label based in Bristol that publishes extreme and experimental music on cassette.
Whilst we primarily publish Grindcore and Harsh Noise from the local Bristol scene we are not limited by genre or artist location, we’ve published releases covering Grindcore, Hardcore Punk, Harsh Noise, Free Improv, Post Punk and much more.
Once in a while a zine is also released.
Our sub-label FLOPPY EGG also publishes similar music on floppy disk.

What DIY means to us
The purpose of Eggy Tapes is to serve artists first and foremost. This means never reaching into their pockets and doing as much labour in the tape production process as we possibly can to keep costs low.
If I paid another company to duplicate tapes or make the J cards then I’d be little more than middle man scraping the fat of the top for my own personal gain.
Tape quality
We think tapes get too much of a bad reputation from poorly maintained equipment and low quality dubs. Cassettes have the capability to sound really fantastic when the right attention is paid to the recording process and to the playback device.
We take great care in ensuring the tapes we sell are recorded to the highest standards to give you the best possible listening experience.
We record in real time directly from a single digital source on a series of tape decks, namely 2x Tascam 202 Mk III’s and a JVC TD-W208. All tapes are recorded using Dolby HX Pro.
The heads and pinch rollers of our machines are inspected and cleaned for each side of every cassette dubbed and we also regularly listen to dubbed tapes on external devices for quality assurance.
In short, they sound pretty good.
